Starting point

Leicestershire
LE67 8JH

A mostly offroad ride using good surfaced trails. Starting from the free car park at New Lount nature reserve we head out along quiet roads to Worthington where we stop to look into the quarry from the viewpoint. We pick up the cloud trail here, this is an old railway line that runs virtually all the way to Derby. We leave the trail at Kings Newton where we ride alongside Staunton Harold Reservoir and out into Ticknall. This is where we head into the grounds of Calke Abbey and pick up the Tramway trail whch is a hard packed gravel trail running around the perimeter of the estate. We will leave the Tramway trail at the entrance to Staunton Harold Hall and the Ferrers centre, where ther will be an oportunity for some light refreshments in the courtyard. From here we head out through the estate on nice gravel trails and out onto a short section of the main road at Lount. We turn off the road just under the A453 and head through New Lount nature reserve back to the start. There are several opportunities for a cafe stop on route which we will decide on the day.
