A challenging ride to Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace, not for the distance or pace, but for the hills we need to tackle! You also need to be confident in traffic as we take some busy roads around Hampstead Heath.

We set off via Kilburn, Chalk Farm and Upper Holloway until we reach Parkland Walk South from Stroud Green to Finsbury Park. Parkland Walk is a green pedestrian and cycle route which follows an unused railway line that once ran between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace through Crouch End and Highgate. It is a rough terrain in some parts with lots of gravel, making this ride unsuitable for road bikes with skinny tyres.

When leaving Finsbury Park, we start tackling our biggest hills. Our first real climb is in Haringey, and then we face another big one at Alexandra Palace taking us to the top, where we stop at the Boating Lake Café for a well-deserved coffee and a toilet break.

After taking pictures of some beautiful views of London from the top, we depart Ally Pally via Parkland Walk North to Muswell Hill. We cross Highgate until we are around Hampstead Heath, where we climb our final hill taking us to the busy Spaniards Road. From here, it’s pretty much downhill back to Roundwood Park via Brondesbury.

It’s very important that your bike is in good condition, even more so for this ride - we will be changing gears and using brakes a lot. Bring a spare inner tube and tools in case you have a puncture.

Helmets aren't compulsory but highly advisable. Please wear a mask if entering a busy indoor space like a toilet or coffee shop, except if you are exempt. Unless the weather takes a nasty turn making it unsafe or unpleasant to cycle, this ride will go ahead even if it rains – dress for the weather and bring waterproofs.

Places are limited and sometimes get booked up with a waiting list. If you develop Covid-19 symptoms or have been told to self-isolate before the ride, or can't make it for any other reason, please cancel your space on the website so someone else can join.
