Finsbury Park

Our first ride of the year as lockdown restrictions begin to ease, and the beginning of our 2021 resolution to explore new routes in different parts of London. We’ll make an early start from Ealing, to have the benefit of quieter traffic on a Bank Holiday morning.

We head north-east out of Ealing, using a short stretch of canal towpath to bring us to Harlesden, and then riding towards Central London on quieter roads and designated cycleways. We pass through Camden and on into Islington, turning up through Highbury Corner where new cycle tracks offer us a safe way across this busy junction, and then into Finsbury Park. Our return ride takes us via Upper Holloway, Tufnell Park, and Gospel Oak, before turning down through St John’s Wood and Maida Vale to cross the canal at the Halfpenny Bridge and join Quietway 2 in North Kensington. We ride through Wormwood Scrubs and onto the cycletrack along Western Avenue, before turning off through Acton and back to Ealing.

This is a fairly long ride but there are no really big hills. It is an urban ride so we won’t be going very fast and will have a lot of junctions to negotiate. You need to be fairly confident riding in traffic. This is a great ride for those interested in finding their way on a bike around different parts of London.
