This is a test of the ESW Caerphilly Loop to a larger audience. The route takes into account Thornhill Road and Mountain Road. The former is a long drag up to the top of the mountain, there are bits in this which are steep but for the most part you can take a drink on this climb. Caerphilly Mountain isn't as bad as most people make out. Once you are over the hump it shallows off allowing you to catch you breath and take a drink. The trick is to keep going, once you see the sign for the cafe then you have by in-large beaten the climb!

Starting at Maindy pool we will head up Whitchurch road to the roundabout at the top. From there we will turn right to join Thornhill road. We will follow this road all the way to to the top of Caerphilly Mountain. From the summit we will head down into Caerphilly via Blackrock road. Once in the town we will head up Mountain road to the cafe at the summit. The journey home is downhill retracing our steps on Thornhill road. We end the ride back at Maindy. Please note that we are climbing the Caerphilly mountain from the Caerphilly side, this climb is steep for the first 500metres then is levels off. Needless to say this ride is very climb intensive so bring your climbing legs! We will wait at the top of the hills so everyone will be able to regroup.

The route is all on public roads, there are a few side streets in Caerphilly.

There are two natural stops. One at the top of Thornhill Road and the second at the top of Caerphilly Mountain. Due to the time we are heading out there are no food stops on the route, so bring your own food and drink.

Bring helmet, lights, puncture repair kit or spare inner tube and pump.

We never leave anyone behind
