This is a great, varied ride from Eastern Leisure Centre, Llanrumney on urban roads, country lanes (some roads may be busy), and some shared paths/trails to 14 Locks Canal Cafe. Some big climbs there and back, so be sure you're happy with your gears, brakes and fitness.
We'll head east from the start, towards Old St Mellons, then onto Basaleg via the challenging Penylan Hill (steep up and down). We'll stop for a quick breather at the top. Then a short section on roads and trails/shared pavements (crossing a foot bridge that requires you to push/carry your bike over steps) and along the canal path to 14 Locks Canal cafe for refreshment stop (30 minutes). I plan to sit outside, weather permitting, but you're welcome to sit inside, so bring a suitable lock and mask etc if you want to sit inside. Toilets are available.
The route back cuts up to Michaelston y Fedw via NCN 4 (another couple of decent climbs), through Old St Mellons then back to the Eastern Leisure Centre.
The route is tarmac, mainly roads, but with some shared paths, some of which may be wet and mucky after rain with debris at this time of year. Suitable for all types of bike, but be mindful of the autumnal conditions and use treaded tyres.
Please bring some money if you would like to buy refreshments, or your own drink/snack. Please also wear a helmet, and bring a spare inner tube/pump etc.
If you have any questions, please either 'message ride creator' through Lets Ride, or post it on the ride conversation tab
