NOTE. You must register on Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/dulwich-to-vauxhall-bridge-cycle-ride-tickets-190307493837) so we can limit numbers as we post information to several locations. If you do register here you may get a confirmation. I am afraid this does not over-ride the Eventbrite registration. If Eventbrite says the ride is full, then that is correct. You can join the Wait List on Eventbrite and may get liucky. Remember we ride every week and if you want early notifications then join our Google Group, https://groups.google.com/g/healthy-riders.

We wanted to demonstrate that you could do a non-hilly ride from Dulwich! Route follows the the “lost” river Effra to the Thames. Outward leg via Brockwell Park to Brixton town centre where traffic can be heavy. Down Brixton Road and round the Oval is gently downhill and mostly uses bus lanes. Will have a stop on Vauxhall Bridge to note where the Effra was marked as flowing into the Thames next to MI6. Cannot do this now as the marked exit has been covered up due to Tideway Sewer works. Anyway, this is not where the Effra mostly enters the Thames - find out more here (http://vauxhallhistory.org/river-effra-jon-newman/). Note Effra buried in a sewer by Bazalgette in the mid-1860s. Return ride will start, if time, with a circuit of the new American embassy with its moat and defensive rampart and a look at the Sky Pool (https://www.embassygardens.com/sky-pool/). Back to CS5 and into Kennington Park, followed by back streets to Myatts Fields. Then Elim Open Space, across Coldharbour Lane at Cambria Rd, and along Milkwood road to Herne Hill. Finally Burbage Rd, past the Velodrome (maybe pop in if we have time) to Dulwich Village and the Park. Overall a mixture of quiet and busy streets, some cycle lane. Care needed at Brixton central, but we have done this ride several times without problems. Route at http://tinyurl.com/y7ul6r9r. An easy 2 hour ride with Bruce leading.

This ride is organised by Southwark Cyclists and is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.
