DH1 1WA

The route starts from Durham City and we will pedal out to Hett village, Metal Bridge, around Coxhoe following the Kelloe way, then through Town Kelloe and onto Wheatley Hill. We continue to Shotton Colliery where we can stop at Horns Garden centre for refreshments and then we will follow the NCN 14 back to Durham.
There are no major hills but the route is undulating.

Ray Lonsdale is a steel fabricator from Durham. Tommy or ‘Eleven O One’ the soldier sculpture at Seaham is probably the most well known in this area. Ray’s collection show the sculptor’s fascination with the human form and are built from steel, and there is plenty of his work just a bike ride away. On this route we will visit four of his sculptures.

The follows cycle paths, quiet country lanes, old train lines, some ‘B’ roads and the NCN14
