The Central London Outdoor Group (CLOG) (founded 1937) https://www.clog.org.uk has an easy cycle rides in the countryside nearly every week between March and October ranging from 20 to 35 miles. These are easily accessible by public transport from London and are on quiet roads or cycle paths.

By bike we explore rivers, canals, forts, castles, coast, marshes, gardens, woods, ruins, churches, mansions, cycle-ferries, churchyards, villages, lost railways....

Non members can come up to 3 cycle rides or other events to try us out before joining. To join CLOG, visit our website https://www.clog.org.uk and click on the orange join us button.

Cycle ride: Medway, marshes, castles, lovely villages + victorian charnel house, 23 miles Easy

This cycle ride passes 5 marshes (Higham Marshes, Cliff Marshes, Cooling Marshes, Whalebone Marshes, Wouldham Marshes), 4 castles (Cooling Castle, Upnor Castle, Rochester Castle and Starkeys Castle), several lovely villages, 1 river (Medway), 1 Russian submarine and 1 charnel house.

We starts at Higham station where we pick up cycle route 179 to the lovely village of Cliffe with its beautiful and 19th century charnel house (for bodies found washed up in the marshes). After passing surreal Cooling Castle, we turn south through Cliffe Woods to the Medway and the beautiful village of Upper Upnor with lovely buildings and castle where we will stop for lunch, probably at the Kings Arms.

After lunch, we cross the Medway at Rochester and pass Wouldham Marshes, Burham Court, the site of a Roman Villa to finish at Aylesford where we catch the train back to London.
