Another easy cycle ride in the quiet Essex countryside. This time we are starting at Braintree where we immediately pickup the Flitchway - a cycle path on the dinused railway line that once ran between Braintree and Bishops Stortford.
We leave the Flitchway near Felstead and head south through Cock Green, Thistley Green to Littley Green where we stop for lunch at The Compasses http://www.compasseslittleygreen.co.uk
Back on our bikes we continue south through Howe St and Chignal Smealy to Roxwell where we stop for afternoon tea at the Hare near Roxwell which has a nice patio garden and a homemade cake servery http://www.pieandpintinns.co.uk/thehare/
Then Newney Green and the lovely cycle path into Chelmsford where the ride finishes. There are frequent trains from Chelmsford back to London.
Be on the 9.55 train from Stratford getting into Braintree at 10:50 (NOT Braintree Freeport). This train originates at Liverpool St and Shenfield so join the train at the most convenient station.http://trains.im/schedule/L80524/2018/10/06/
Get an super offpeak day return to Braintree - from Stratford this costs £12.30 wth a discount card eg Network Card, Gold Card etc.
