PR1 4LX

We set of from Frenchwood carpark and ride along a short stretch of residential road to join the Guildwheel cyclepath. We turn right onto the path and head through the picturesque Avenham and Miller parks and take in the great views of the River Ribble . We follow the River Ribble all the way to Preston marina where we cross the over the water using the cyclepath provided. We then continue on the path emerging just past a small viewing point. Look out for the many and varied birdlife that feeds along this section of the river and prepare for the steady climb up to Lea bridge. We climb up over the bridge to rejoin the path and cycle alongside the Millenium link which connects the river ribble to the Lancaster canal. Look out for canal boats in the Locks and Preston North End football squad practicing on their training ground. Finally we reach the UCLAN sport ground and the whistle stop café. This is an out and back route so after a short break we retrace our steps all the way back to our start point at French wood. This is an interesting route with some lovely views of the river and great for building up to completing the full 21 mile Guildwheel route

We will aim for an average speed of 8-10 miles an hour

This route will suit women who are new or returning to cycling. But as with all Breeze ride all women are welcome

The route is almost entirely traffic free making use of the Preston Guild wheel cycle path. All bikes are suitable for this terrain but must be in a road worthy condition.

We will take a breather at the UCLAN sports arena where we can take advantage of the facilities

Please bring some water and a snack and be prepared for cold/ wet weather conditions. Riders are advised to wear a helmet and it is compulsory for those under 18 to wear a helmet. Prior to the start of the ride there will be a short bike check and safety brief but please make sure that your bike is in working order before joining the ride. Please carry a spare inner tube and tools necessary to carry out a puncture repair

This is a small friendly group of women who enjoy a gentle ride round the parks and cycleways in our area. We love to welcome new members and we never leave anyone behind.
