- We will cycle mainly on quiet roads and delightful country lanes to Latimer, Ley Hill, Jasons Hill, Bovingdon, Flaunden Bottom, Sarratt, Solesbridge Ln back to Chorleywood after 750ft climbing via this route
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/34395747 - We will wait at the top of every hill to regroup. Because of the hills, this ride is best on a road bike.
- If you want the loo before you start, then arrive slightly early, buy a drink at Rootz and use theirs. We need to be back at Chorleywood by 12:30 so we will have the coffee stop at the end of the ride.
- Bring credit card, snack, at least 1 spare inner tube and possibly a lightweight bike lock (to use as a deterrent while at café). But don’t go overboard with heavy gear, as everything feels even heavier when cycling up those hills! I would prefer that you wear a helmet for your own safety.
- You can take your bike anywhere on the Metropolitan Line anytime on weekends and off-peak Mon-Fri (peak hours are 7:30-9:30 and 16:00-19:00). For info see
https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycling-in-london/bikes-on-public-transport- From Northwood the Metropolitan Line tube leaves at 9:35 arriving Chorleywood 9:46. From Harrow on the Hill station the Chiltern Railways train departs at 9:39 and arrives at Chorleywood at 9:54.
- Or it takes 20-40 mins to drive from most towns within Hillingdon borough. There is free parking in roads west of the tube station e.g. St Peter's Way off Blacketts Wood Drive (make sure you don’t park any closer than that or there is bound to be that tricky thing they do with residents parking for 1 hour a day, contact me if you are unsure), or there is a car park under the tube station at 24 Chorleywood Bottom, £4 for all day.
- Please check your bike thoroughly before you come. Check your brakes are working well, your gears are smooth and your tyres are in good condition and pumped up – you can use this video.
