Leaving from the County Hall car park we will join the NCN 14 route through Durham across to Sherburn and Hetton, around the lake and up beside the quarry on bridle ways and quiet roads. Entering Doxford Park we will follow cycle paths through Sunderland and over the A19 into Herrington Country Park, climbing up to the Tea Rooms at Penshaw Garden Centre.After a delicious lunch we will travel via bridle way and quiet roads back through Elba Park, Fencehouses and Great Lumley, returning via County Hall.
As usual, please come dressed for the weather and in these hot conditions bring plenty of water, wear suncream and it is always very useful to carry spare inner tubes and a repair kit.
