Breeze Durham Starter Ride Brandon and Holywell
Thurs 23rd June 2022 6.45pm 10 miles
Low Burnhall Car Park, South Rd, DH1 3TX
Join us for this short ride which is part of our weekly summer series of Thursday evening starter rides in the Durham area during May, June and July. These rides are suitable for those new or returning to cycling to build up confidence and stamina over the weeks, while enjoying the summer evenings and good company.
During May we’ll cover the flattest and shortest routes and as the weeks go by the miles and hills (can’t be avoided around Durham) will increase.
Doing as many of the rides as possible is recommended to reap the greatest benefits.
The ride is most suitable for hybrid bikes as it is a mix of on and off road. We’ll head out along the Brandon Bishop railway path to Brandon. From here we’ll freewheel down the Scripton Gill Road to follow the scenic bridleway underneath the Croxdale Viaduct to the River Wear at Sunderland Bridge. There’s a climb back up to the Cock of the North from where we’ll wiggle our way via Nevilles Cross back to the start.
In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. We should be riding for about an hour and there will be the option to stop for a cuppa/drink once back in town.
As always we can’t predict the weather so please dress suitably. You are better to be overdressed as you can always take layers off. It may still be glove and buff weather in May.
