The third 'Ride Through Winter' or Breeze for Trees as I prefer (complete 4 Breeze Rides during January and February and British Cycling will plant a tree plus, there are prize draws with all riders in with a chance to win a rather nice set of front lights). This ride takes us out on a familiar route through Elvaston Country Park and on to Aston and Weston on Trent to the place where it is said the first Newton Wonder Apple Tree was found (it's on Wikipedia so must be correct). 'The tree was said to have been found in the roof-gutter of the Hardinge Arms pub, King's Newton, Derbyshire as a seedling apple-tree, by William Taylor who was the landlord of the pub at the time. He then planted the seedling in the pub garden and from that tree the first Newton Wonder apple was produced.'

We will encounter the usual mixture of busier roads, country lanes and traffic free cycle paths.

Refreshments will be taken at Swarkeston Garden Centre, about 3/4 of the way round.

Helmets are advised - I will be wearing one. The Covid Bit - This ride will adhere to the current social distancing requirements at all times, from car park to cafe and including stopping at junctions. Please bring everything with you that you might need on the ride eg spares, tools, extra clothing, snacks and drink, sharing is not encouraged. There is no need to wear a mask on the ride but one will be required for the cafe stop or for a mechanical so it's probably best to have one handy. Please do not ride if you feel unwell, have Covid symptoms or have been advised to self isolate. If you test positive after the ride, please let the ride leader know.
