For sessions 5 and 6 bike hire is available directly at Redbridge Cycle Centre and no pre-booking is required.

(Note - you can book and attend individual sessions, but the skills instruction is progressive so your riding will benefit more from coming on all six sessions.).

This series of combined skills and led rides will build your confidence on your bike with a view to moving to road rides, as well as improving your ability to ride close to other riders. Each session will consist of approximately 30 minutes' cycle skills and 30 minutes riding on the traffic free Fairlop Waters Country Park.

The focus on skills development will depend partly on the skill level of the group, but is likely to include:

- Correct position of helmet
- Correct saddle height
- Starting (pedal ready)
- stopping safely (dismounting)
- Using both brakes effectively
- Controlling your bike
- Looking behind whilst riding
- Using gears to manage your energy on a ride
- Riding one-handed so that you can signal and drink whilst riding
- Cornering
- Group riding
- Climbing hills
- Descending hills
- Advice on comfortable clothing and common problems incurred.

The skills sessions and rides will be led by Nadjie a fully qualified and insured British Cycling Level 2 Coach and Level 2 Ride Leader.
