Starting from - Start at near Brechfa Pool, Near Llyswen, LD3 0NL
Please be ready to leave by 6pm.

A word about parking. Unfortunately there are no official parking places on Brechfa Common. It can be very boggy, so you have to be very careful where you park. Locals know the bests spots, so after passing Brechfa Pool on your right and a converted chapel on your left, continue straight on (avoiding any left or right turns) until you see a black car parked on a small hump on your left hand side. You can also park on the road near to the chapel and cycle up to the start but please make sure you don’t block any access and leave plenty of room for cars and farm vehicles to pass.

Starting point

Powys Radnorshire
LD3 0NN

A dark night MTB ride. Suitable for MTB riders with some experience.

This route uses mainly wide grass tracks through exposed upland moorland. In general the trail is not technical, this means there’s not much single track, no really steep drop offs and it’s not too rocky.

However, there are a few rocky bits to negotiate, some deeply rutted muddy sections and a few short sections of steeper descent. With careful riding, these more difficult segments can all be avoided or by keeping your speed down, can be ridden quite safely.

Make sure you wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions on the night and remember it will feel much colder up on the exposed moorland. A waterproof jacket is important for this ride. You can either wear it or store it in a small rucksack. You must have a powerful set of bike lights for this ride.

Please bring a well-maintained mountain bike, wear a helmet, warm gloves, carry a small rucksack containing a drink, some snacks, a spare tube, puncture repair kit, pump and spare warm top. Please wear or carry a lightweight waterproof jacket.

You may find a change of clothing, dry shoes and a towel (left in your car) to change into after the ride is useful.
