Beautiful Tynedale

A lovely 39 mile route into the Northumberland countryside, using a mixture of off road tracks and roads. We start by heading to the Tyne and following it to Wylam. Here we leave the cycle track and climb up to cross the Military Road to continue our journey to Stamfordham, Whittledene Reservoirs, Newton and then drop down to Brockbush Farm, where we will have our cafe stop. We will return to Swalwell via the Hadrian's cycleway through Bywell, Ovingham, Wylam, Blaydon and back to the visitor centre. Elevation across the ride is c 1500 feet.

The climb up to the Military Road will test the legs, but we are rewarded with lovely views and a fabulous drop down from Newton to Brockbush Farm. Confidence to ride on roads will be necessary, but we will be using quieter lanes where possible. We are aiming for a minimum of 10 mph pace for this ride.

Please check your bike is in good working condition before the day and bring a spare inner tube to fit your tyres. A drink, snacks and a helmet are also advised, as well as clothing appropriate for the weather conditions.

Please arrive by 9.45am so we can do our intros and get underway before 10am. If it is possible to car share that would be helpful with parking spots.
