Starting point

Neath Port Talbot
SA1 8EN

This route follows NCN4 east from Bay Campus, then heads up NCN47 beside the Neath and Tennant canal. This route is traffic-free and picturesque, but does involve a couple of low bridges underneath which we will have to duck. At Neath we will take a few quiet roads and climb up towards The Gnoll Country Park, which is a relaxing destination, with great views, and some interesting history.

This route is 80% traffic-free. The canal tow path has just been resurfaced, and there is low headroom underneath a couple of bridges. The climb up to the country park is on relatively quiet residential roads. Within the country park, cycling is permitted, and there are some tracks which might be of interest to those with off-road bicycles, but the ride itself will not be using them.

There is a café in the park which is open 7 days a week until 5:30pm, therefore it will be closed when we get there. Those that wish to wait by the café may do so, whilst others can opt to ride gently around the park instead.

Helmets are mandatory for all rides led by Swansea University. A lock is a good idea for the café stop, but all bikes will be locked together regardless.
