Durham End of Year Breeze - A Pittington Round
Friday 28th December 1.30pm 13 miles
Start Durham Clayport Library

Pedal with us and celebrate the end of the year in cycle style. Starting from Clayport Library in Millennium Place DH1 1WA we’ll pedal our way along Durham's riverbanks, climbing to Dragonville from where we'll escape the city via Renny's Lane to Sherburn. From here we'll head past Littletown and Pittington before returning to Durham. The route is varied and interesting. Averagely hilly for Durham standards and a mix of on and off road. The road sections are mainly quiet and the off road sections good quality apart from one rough short section. It's a lovely ride from the city into the heart of the countryside.

The route is best for hybrid bikes. Recommended only for children over 10 years as there are some road sections needing particular care. Under 16s must wear a helmet. Please come prepared for winter weather with plenty of clothes including gloves and bring a spare inner tube for your tyres. Also make sure you’ve got front and back lights in case light conditions are poor. As the weather is unpredictable at this time of year we may alter the ride slightly if conditions are not great. If it's really bad we'll make any decision to cancel by 11am on the morning and let you know. For any last minute cancellations on the day please text 07493808927 (note this phone is only for the day of the ride) otherwise use the option to cancel when you log in to letsride.co.uk.

In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. We should be out for about 2 hours but as always it is difficult to be precise about timing. There will be the option to stop for a cuppa on our return to Durham (venue to be confirmed).

Hope you can join us for a fun and friendly ride. If you want any more information email us at [email protected]. Audrey

Easy Breezy Durham City Sun 7th October 10am 5 miles Start Clayport Library Millennium Place DH1 1WA This is a regular favourite of ours - a surprising 5 mile circuit largely on traffic free cycle routes from Durham City Centre to Newton Hall and Brasside and back along the River Wear. You will be impressed with the network of off road routes close to Durham as well as the lovely Crook Hall cafe which was voted favourite cake stop in a recent Breeze Network Durham poll. We’ll stop here for a cuppa and present them with a momento of their accolade.

The ride is suitable for any bike other than very skinny road tyres. In true Durham style there are some hills but they are worth the effort for the lovely views of the Cathedral on the way back downhill to town. We may even be amongst a blaze of autumn colour. If you’re new to Breeze this is a great opportunity to take that leap and join us for a short ride.

First-timers welcome!
