A Perky Pedal to Parkhead
Sun 27th June 9.30am 42 miles
Start at Broompark Picnic Site DH7 7RJ
Starting from Broompark we will pedal to Parkhead via Esh Winning, Cornsay Colliery and Salters Gate/Oxen Law where we will join the Waskerley Way for the final few miles up to Parkhead. We will return along the railway path to Whitehall where we will join minor roads back via Quebec. This is a challenging ride as the minor roads are steep in places and overall we will be pedalling over 2000’ uphill.
The ride is suitable for more seasoned riders on hybrid bikes. As always we can’t predict the weather so please dress suitably especially as it can get cold as we ascend to the moorland. You may well need extra layers as it may well be cold up there. You can purchase food at Parkhead or you can bring your own packed lunch. Do bring your own snacks so that you don’t run out of steam.
In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. Expect to be out for about 5 hours so bring some snacks.
