A Canny Commute 2 - Sherburn and Belmont to Durham and back
Tues 28th July 6.30pm 8 miles
Start at Sherburn Sports Centre, Front St, DH6 1QX
Have you taken up cycling during lockdown and wanting to make it part of your everyday life? Commuting by bike is the perfect way to keep fit without hardly noticing. This ride is ideal for those who live in Sherburn or Belmont and wanting to test out some possible routes. Before booking on please read the following notes about the ride.
We’ll start from the Sports centre car park and Head to Rennys Lane which is our key off road link between Sherburn and Gilesgate/Belmont. We’ll depart this via the Belmont estate and head to Gilesgate Moor and the Willowtree Avenue Estate. Here we wiggle our way through the housing to take the bridge over the A690 to the top of Claypath. We’ll find our way back to the riverbanks and return via the more scenic Old Durham and rejoin Rennys Lane back to Sherburn.
A varied and interesting route showing different choices in and out of the city while avoiding unpleasant junctions and roads as much as possible.
Our ride will be a mix of on road and largely good quality off road. No escaping a few up and downs but they come with a big sense of satisfaction and better for our fitness and health.
In order for the ride to leave promptly, please be punctual so we can carry out bike checks, etc. prior to us setting off. Please make sure your bike is in working condition and bring a spare tube to fit your tyres. Expect to be out for about 2 hours.
As always we can’t predict the weather so please dress suitably. You are better to be overdressed as you can always take layers off.
