From the Cycle Hub on Newcastle Quayside, taking one of the lovely cycle routes beside the River Tyne and returning along the same route (or with a small variation). Suitable for anyone who can ride a bike. You don’t need to have experience of riding in a group.

Generally flat. Mostly on a car free cycle route, partly shared with pedestrians. Small sections of all routes involve using a cycle lane on a quiet road; one route involves a short distance on a quiet road without a cycle lane.

We may cycle through spaces shared with pedestrians and you have to be free to weave through slowly and safely so we stop frequently to regroup. In other situations we take as many stops (for a break, a drink or photos) as participants want.

Your own bike if you like (having previously given it a check including brakes, tyres, chain etc, and with a spare inner tube just in case). And your cycle helmet (helmets are a requirement on the ride). Alternatively the Hub has kindly offered to subsidise bike hire so you can use one of theirs for £5. *Please book bikes a few days in advance* to be sure they have one for you. Helmets and high-visibility vests are included. Bring a backpack rather than a handbag and a waterbottle, which you can fill at the Hub. Remember sunscreen on hot days

This ride is for you if you want to get back into cycling. It's a social ride and much of the route will allow you to talk to other cyclists, moving at a pace suitable for everyone. We will speed up if everybody wants to but it's never more than an hours gentle exercise. Use the ride to build up confidence, skills with gears, stamina or simply to learn some routes before you move onto a 2 hour ride (also from the Hub) or take off independently with new cycling friends
