Marlow Social Bike Ride

This group began in September 2018 as part of the Active Bucks initiative to get county residents more active and healthy. We welcome all those who want to increase their fitness through cycling in a friendly social setting whether beginners or experienced. Details When? We meet every Thursday at 10:00am (10:30 in the winter) Where? At the National Sports Centre, Bisham Abbey, outside the reception entrance. There is ample parking if coming by car. Our routes are on quiet lanes and easy off-road tracks as much as possible. The route will be decided on the day suit the riders and prevailing weather conditions. Routes from Marlow may go North into the Chiltern Hills and villages or South e.g. towards Maidenhead, Windsor or Twyford areas. Usually 20 to 30 miles of mixed quiet roads and off-road trails. Occasionally we start the ride from Wallingford for a change of routes and scenery. There is a great selection of country lanes and off-road tracks through the South Oxfordshire countryside. How far? Our rides typically range from approximately 20 to 30 miles. The decision on route is made on the day according to the riders present and weather conditions. We incorporate a coffee stop so the total ride time can range from two to four hours. What about the bike? Hybrid style, mountain bikes, gravel bikes are ideal, including electric versions. Bikes with narrow, slick tyres may have difficulty with some of the off-road sections. All bikes must be in a safe roadworthy condition.
